Dwarka in Gujarat to be developed under Swadesh Darshan 2.0, ET TravelWorld


Giving information about the Swadesh Darshan Scheme which has been revamped to SD 2.0 for development of sustainable and responsible tourist destinations, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Development of North-Eastern Region, G Kishan Reddy said that Dwarka in Gujarat has been selected for development under the scheme.

The identification of sites is mainly the prerogative of the state governments/UT Administrations, said Reddy adding that these projects are sanctioned subject to availability of funds, submission of suitable detailed project reports, adherence to scheme guidelines, utilisation of funds released earlier and more.

Financial assistance is also provided under the Swadesh Darshan for the development of tourism infrastructure, he added.

During the recently concluded second TWG meeting at Siliguri, the countries unanimously adopted ‘Green Tourism’ to be the most important priority for all the participating countries. The Tourism Secretary said the discussions during the first two TWG meetings are progressing in the right direction, aiding the drafting of the final GOA Communique.

He also spoke about the Ministry of Tourism providing financial assistance under the ‘National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD)’ Scheme. The objective he said is for an integrated development of identified pilgrimage and heritage destinations in consultation with the respective state governments/ union territories (UTs).Replying in the Rajya Sabha session yesterday, Reddy also mentioned that the Ministry of Tourism, inter-alia, promotes tourist destinations of India, including the Saptha Moksha Puri (Seven Liberation destinations), viz., Ayodhya, Mathura, Maya (Haridwar), Kashi (Varanasi), Kanchi Avantika (Ujjain), Puri (Odisha) and Dwaravati (Dwaraka, Gujarat), in a holistic manner.

To push promotions in the domestic and global markets through electronic, print and digital media, the ministry undertakes promotional campaigns to endorse various tourist destinations and products of the country, he said.

Further promotions are also undertaken through the official web-site as well as through social media handles of the Ministry, Reddy added.
