Reusable food containers have been experiencing what can rightly be called a renaissance. You can find containers for leftovers and lunches that match your aesthetic, ecological, and practical values, and they’re all much more durable and stain resistant than the flimsy plastic ones. But, if you also want to quit relying on single-use plastic wrap to keep ingredients fresh, your options are a little more limited — or they were, until today.

W&P, the brand behind one of our editors’ favorite lunch boxes and insulated drink tumblers, added a series of reusable silicone lids to their collection, and they come in handy for all kinds of jobs in the kitchen. The lids are available in both round and rectangular sets, and they’re designed to fit snugly over all kinds of containers, cans, and individual foods (such as half-used onions) to prevent spoilage and odor contamination. These universal lids are safe to go in the dishwasher, microwave, and oven — that’s right, you can even cook with them — so whether you’re saving a dish for later or reheating it to enjoy now, you can do so without creating any waste.

The round set comes with six pieces in sizes from 2.5 inches up to 8 inches in diameter. They’re great for keeping open cans of tomatoes fresh, protecting sliced lemons and limes, and turning bowls of half-eaten food into leftovers storage containers. You can also use them on containers that don’t have lids (or had lids that went missing), which can give old food containers a second life. Plus, the next time you’re bringing food to a potluck, you don’t have to buy disposable trays or worry about finding a lidded container that’s large enough — just stretch one of these over whatever bowl your dish is already in and it’s ready for safe transport.

The rectangular set has three sizes, the largest of which is big enough to fit over most standard-sized casserole dishes. These are game-changers when it comes to figuring out how to store large amounts of leftovers because you no longer have to transfer, say, an entire lasagna into a series of small containers (that will all then have to be washed). Instead, you can pop one of these lids over the dish and stash the entire tray in your fridge. And when you want to reheat it, you can put the tray directly in the oven — these lids let you cook, store, reheat, and serve out of the same dish.

All of the lids are made of silicone that’s certified by the LFGB, a European food safety commission, to be safe for use with food. The LFGB is like the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA), only their standards are stricter, so you know these kitchen tools will never leave behind any chemicals or toxins in your food.

Ready to ditch plastic wrap and make the switch to versatile and waste-free food protectors? Pick up a set of these sturdy lids — we’re sure you’ll uncover even more uses once you get them home.
