Six new hotels coming up in Nepal as IHG and Lemon Tree sign new properties, ET TravelWorld


Two major hospitality brands – InterContinental Hotels Group and Lemon Tree Hotels have announced their expansion in Nepal after signing four and two new hotels in the Himalayan nation respectively. The new development will lead to addition of 700 keys in the hospitality network of Nepal and ultimately helping the cause of tourism in the country.

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Nepal based Shangri-La Hotel & Resort Group to develop four new hotels in – InterContinental Kathmandu Lazimpat, Hotel Indigo Pokhara Gharipatan, InterContinental Resort Pokhara Begnas Lake, and InterContinental Resort Chitwan, Meghauli.

Whereas, Lemon Tree Hotels has announced the signing of two franchised hotels- Lemon Tree Premier, Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, Nepal and Lemon Tree Resort, Lumbini, Nepal.

The signing will see IHG add close to 500 rooms to its portfolio in Nepal, and debut two of its global brands, InterContinental and Hotel Indigo in the market. On the other hand, the two combined hotel signing of Lemon Tree Hotels bring on board almost 200 keys and take the count up to five properties in Nepal under different brands of its umbrella.

Look ahead 2023: Hospitality industry raring to go big on bleisure travel and sustainable practices

In 2023, leisure travel will play a significant role with overall sentiment being optimistic. Travellers will continue to explore, experience and value off-beat destinations and hidden gems domestically including in tier II and III cities. IHG’s new hotels are scheduled to open in the next 1-4 years in the leisure destinations of Nepal such as Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan while Lemon Tree Premier in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu is expected to open in or before January 2024. The other property which is franchised by Lemon Tree Hotels – Lemon Tree Resort, Lumbini is expected to open in or before October 2023.Looking at the key count of these new properties in Nepal, the InterContinental Kathmandu Lazimpat (being redeveloped on the same site as Shangri-la Kathmandu hotel) will feature 225 rooms. The other three IHG properties – Hotel Indigo Pokhara, InterContinental Pokhara Begnas Lake, and InterContinental Resort Chitwan will feature 100, 80 and 80 keys respectively.

Lemon Tree Premier will feature 102 rooms while Lemon Tree Resort will feature 81 rooms.
