Copa America: Darwin Nunez threatens to kick the USMNT out of ‘his’ Copa America

What a mess the U.S. National Team has gotten itself into with the loss to Panama, as it must now get three points against Uruguay to fight with the ‘Canaleros’ on goal difference in Group C to advance to the quarterfinals of the Copa America.

That loss to the team coached by Thomas Christiansen is a real headache for the USMNT because they will face a Uruguay side that is in great form and Gregg Berhalter will have to change things from the match played against Panama if they want to have any chance of advancing from the group stage.

Uruguay’s Impressive Performance Confirms Their Status as Top Contender in #CopaAmérica2024, Celeste Fans Rejoice

Uruguay will not only face the USMNT in high spirits after a thumping win over Bolivia, but they have also won their last five official matches. They have scored 15 goals and conceded just one, with resounding victories over Argentina away and Brazil at home.

For the USMNT the thought of advancing to the next round almost seems a pipe dream, unless Marcelo Bielsa decides to field a weakened team.

Nunez showing his class

They will be looking to a Darwin Nunez in top form in the light blue jersey. The Liverpool striker has scored a whopping ten goals in his last seven games in the Celeste jersey.

Nunez’s goalscoring voracity includes among his ‘victims’ Colombia, Brazil and Argentina, three of the big favorites in this edition of the Copa America.

In addition, we must take into account the offensive power that the Charrúas are showing in this Copa and the match against Bolivia was a demonstration of it, since the five goals were scored by different players.

Scally, Richards, Ream and Robinson were the back four against Panama and now Berhalter will have to see how to rearrange the team in order to put up a wall against the possible ‘massive’ attacks that the men in blue could make.
