Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: the Kansas City Chiefs won a football game. On a special Saturday game, Andy Reid‘s squad came out victorious once again, bringing their record to an incredible 14-1. The team is now just one win, or a Buffalo Bills loss, away from clinching the top seed in the AFC and a first round bye.
Coming into the game against the Houston Texans, fans weren’t entirely sure to what degree Patrick Mahomes could function. An awkward tackle last weekend saw the QB diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, which was sure to limit his mobility. Instead, Mahomes put any doubts to rest early in the game, rushing twice on the first Chiefs offensive drive of the game for 27 yards and a touchdown. While it was great to see Mahomes healthy, it begged the question from conspiratorial fans: Was Mahomes faking the injury?
He definitely didn’t seem too bothered by the ankle throughout the game, and that type of injury generally knocks players out for multiple weeks depending on the severity. Mahomes has proven capable of playing through injuries in the past, including during the team’s Super Bowl runs in 2022 and 2023.. That doesn’t sit well with many NFL fans, who are starting to think the quarterback dramatizes whatever ailment he’s suffering from.
That conspiracy theory may be too far-fetched, but it certainly could give Mahomes an advantage in certain situations. For example, the Texans may not have expected Mahomes to run at all in this game, so the QB may have wisely used it to sneakily scramble at will.
Fans still believe Chiefs games are rigged
In addition to the “fake injury”, fans continue to believe the NFL rigs games in favor of the Chiefs. They pointed to a play in which Mahomes fumbled on a sack that led to a Texans defensive touchdown. Instead, it was called a forward pass incompletion, erasing the touchdown. Making matters worse was a defender being called for roughing the passer on Mahomes after the touchdown was nullified.
The fumble-forward pass was arguable, but it definitely looked like roughing the passer as Mahomes got hit in the face. Ultimately, the Chiefs keep winning and opposing fans don’t like it.
