Barcelona send American Dest to PSV

Barcelona announced on Saturday that they have reached an agreement with PSV for the transfer of Sergino Dest.

The Catalan club keeps a percentage on a future sale of the player. The defender has already been on loan at the Dutch club this season and is now recovering from a serious knee injury.

Dest never found consistency at Barcelona. He arrived in the 2020/21 season from Ajax, becoming the first American in the azulgrana history.

He has spent two seasons at Camp Nou participating in a total of 72 games, 56 as a starter, and winning a Copa del Rey. However, in the last two seasons he has been on loan to AC Milan and PSV.

The player, who will not return to the field at least until January, was aware that he had no place in Hansi Flick’s squad.

Tough injury for Dest

In addition, the defender was performing at a very high level at PSV before his injury. With the Eindhoven outfit he had accumulated a total of 34 appearances.

He had become an important part of the Dutch team, and announced that it was his intention to stay with the azulgrana at the end of the season. But the serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee, which forced him to undergo surgery at the beginning of May, put the operation in jeopardy. Finally, the two parties have reached an agreement.

Dest arrived at Barcelona in 2020 at 19 years old, costing 21 million euros plus five in variables and signed for five years.

With his contract expiring, Barcelona do not receive a transfer fee but will get a percentage on any future sale PSV make of the player.
