On Tuesday Charles Barkley revealed his decision to remain with TNT Sports, honoring his current contract and reversing his earlier plan to retire after the upcoming NBA season.

This decision comes despite ongoing disputes over NBA TV rights and potential offers from other major networks.

Barkley, a Hall of Fame player and five-time Emmy Award-winning broadcaster, had previously stated during the NBA Finals in June that he intended to retire following the 2024-25 season.

However, he has now committed to staying with TNT Sports, where he has worked for nearly 25 years.

Barkley emphasized the importance of his TNT Sports family and his dedication to his colleagues and fans.

“I love my TNT Sports family. My #1 priority has been and always will be our people and keeping everyone together for as long as possible,”Barkley stated.

“We have the most amazing people, and they are the best at what they do. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with them both on the shows we currently have and new ones we develop together in the future. This is the only place for me.”

Warner Bros. Discovery, TNT Sports’ parent company, is currently engaged in a legal battle with the NBA over the league’s decision not to accept their matching offer for one of the packages in its new 11-year media rights deal, set to begin in the 2025-26 season.

Barkley vows to keep NBA fans entertained

Despite these uncertainties, Barkley has expressed confidence in the company’s leadership and their aggressive efforts to expand TNT Sports’ portfolio.

“I have to say … I’ve been impressed by the leadership team who is fighting hard and have been aggressive in adding new properties to TNT Sports, which I am very excited about. I appreciate them and all of my colleagues for their continued support, and most importantly our fans. I’m going to give my all as we keep them entertained for years to come,” Barkley added.
