UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington, known for his polarizing remarks and fervent support of president-elect Donald Trump, has sparked a new wave of controversy by drawing NBA superstar LeBron James into the ongoing legal troubles surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Covington‘s comments came during a press conference for his upcoming fight against Joaquin Buckley, where he linked James to Diddy‘s alleged sex-trafficking scandal in a series of inflammatory statements.
During the press event, Covington referenced a four-year-old video clip of LeBron James speaking highly of attending one of Diddy‘s legendary parties.
Seizing the opportunity, Covington asked, “I wanna ask LeBron, what does he mean by ‘There’s no party like a Diddy party?'” He further escalated his critique by calling James a “f****** scumbag” and suggesting he “should get locked up in the same cell with Diddy.”
Diddy, who is currently facing serious allegations of sex trafficking, rape, and drugging minors at his infamous parties, has denied all accusations, claiming the events were consensual.
However, the gravity of the charges has kept the scandal in the public eye. Despite this, James has no known connection to any misconduct or criminal activities linked to Diddy‘s legal issues.
LeBron James Becomes Collateral Damage
Covington continued to target James, questioning the NBA star’s absence from social media and his recent break from the Lakers, which was reportedly for “personal reasons.”
“I truly want to know, LeBron, how many Diddy parties have you actually been to?” Covington provocatively asked. “Is that the reason you left social media? Because of all the backlash you were getting from going to so many Diddy parties?”
This isn’t the first time Covington has aimed his criticism at James. In the past, the outspoken UFC fighter has criticized the NBA icon for his support of Black Lives Matter and advocacy for social justice reforms.
“It’s just pathetic, man,” Covington added. “People think this guy’s a role model. [He] wants to defund the police; the most patriotic people in America, serving and protecting our country.”
A Baseless Connection
While Covington‘s remarks have grabbed headlines, there is no evidence linking LeBron James to any wrongdoing associated with Diddy‘s alleged actions.
Fans and critics alike have pointed out that Covington‘s comments are a deliberate attempt to stir controversy and redirect attention to his upcoming fight.
