Davante Adams, star wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders, recently addressed swirling rumors about a potential reunion with his former Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.
Despite the buzz, Adams insists he remains committed to his current team.
Adams doesn’t plan to leave Raiders…yet
Adams appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast, where he candidly discussed the trade rumors linking him to the New York Jets.
“I’m actively on the Raiders. What do I look like sitting here talking to other people about being on another team? And that’s how I still feel about it right now,” Adams stated.
“I’m locked in with the Raiders, and I really feel good about this team, and as far as I know they feel good about me.”
The speculation gained momentum after Rodgers made a comment at a recent golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, saying, “I love Davante. Can’t wait to play with him — again.”
Former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason added fuel to the fire by suggesting on the “Boomer & Gio” show that an Adams trade to the Jets could be in the works this summer.
Adams, 31, is in the third year of his five-year, $140 million contract with the Raiders.
During his two seasons with the team, he has accumulated 203 receptions for 2,660 yards and 22 touchdowns.
His tenure in Las Vegas has been marked by ups and downs, including a brief reunion with his college quarterback, Derek Carr, which lasted only one season.
While Adams acknowledged the impact Rodgers had on his career, he made it clear he doesn’t rely on the veteran quarterback for his success.
“I’m not afraid to say that he definitely made me better, but he definitely didn’t create me – you see it was the same numbers the very next year in Vegas,”Adams said.
“So, obviously I didn’t ‘need him’ but it makes life a hell of a lot easier, that’s for sure.”
Davante Adams: The thought of playing with Aaron is amazing
Reflecting on a possible future with Rodgers, Adams admitted, “If I’m gonna be reunited with anybody, it would be Aaron.”
However, he emphasized that this is not something he is actively pursuing at the moment.
“The thought of playing with Aaron is obviously amazing. I already know what that’s like,” Adams shared.
“Anytime you have that, it gives you a little bit more confidence than starting fresh with somebody you’ve never played with before, and it helps when they’re the best to ever play the game.”
Despite the ongoing rumors, Adams’ agents, Kenny Chapman and Frank Bauer, firmly shut down any notion of a trade.
“This is baseless, unfounded speculation, and Davante is expected to be with the Raiders as there has been absolutely no trade talk — period,” they told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
