Due to the high-profile nature of the players, Team USA has chosen to stay in a luxurious Paris hotel instead of the Olympic Village, a tradition since 1992.

However, the basketball events will be held in Lille, requiring the team to travel before each game. According to Basket News, the team will need to travel to Lille by train, a two-hour journey.

Road travel is an alternative, but due to event preparations, the travel time by road has extended to four hours.

To ensure they are on time for their games, Team USA plans to travel to Lille a day prior and return to Paris immediately after each game. However, recent events in France have

disrupted these plans.

Bomb threats and cyber attacks

On the morning of the opening ceremony, France’s high-speed rail lines experienced three arson attacks, disrupting travel for over 800,000 regular commuters.

In addition to these attacks, cyber attacks by hackers left thousands of passengers stranded at stations, blocking major pathways to Paris.

Although the high-speed rail service is slowly resuming, authorities have warned of potential delays of up to two hours.

This poses a significant challenge for Team USA, who had planned to use these rail networks to travel to Lille for their group stage games.

With these security concerns, the basketball federation may need to consider alternative transportation methods, such as traveling by road.
