The Los Angeles Lakers are in for an interesting trade deadline window, they weren’t left with too many options because of how much LeBron James and Bronny James are going to get paid. For that alone, there are players who could’ve made it to the team that won’t be able to arrive. But if the Lakers were to get a new player, chances are that he will ask for a very specific type of player. According to the new Lakers’ coach, there is a position that the Lakers need to keep well covered and they currently only have one player who can do that. We are talking about Anthony Davis, he is the only players with his characteristics who can help out.
Redick urges for a new Lakrs’ Big Man
Historically, Los Angeles Lakers have always gotten a big man who scored 30+ points per game and is considered a force to be reckoned with. J.J. Redick was very specific while talking on Sirius XM Radio, he said: “You certainly have to look at what I think is actually a very good roster, a very balanced roster. We’d love to, we tried, but we’d love to, at some point, get another five man, a big bruising five man. You look at the Western Conference right now, whether it’s Denver, Minnesota, OKC with what they added, certainly Memphis, they’re going to be back in the hunt, they added Zach Edey, certain matchups in the playoffs, you’re going to need a lot of size.”
When Redick talks about this other five man, he is unintentionally saying that Anthony Davis lacks the defensive prowess other players like Nikola Jikoc, Rudy Gobert, or Chet Holmgren are. But thinking about that ideal big man who has a balanced stat line both on the attack and defense is quite difficult amid the limited wage gap. Unfortunately, Anthony Davis is truly the only big man at the Lakers, and all their trade targets have already landed in different teams. Despite other big men like Christian Wood, Jaxson Hayes, and Jarred Vanderbilt, the Lakers lack that defensive big man.
