The video featured Westbrook‘s prime moments with the OKC Thunder, showcasing his best dunks and his remarkable three seasons averaging triple-doubles.
Even during his tenure with the Wizards, Westbrook managed to maintain an impressive performance. Perkins’s admiration for Westbrook isn’t new, having included him in his top five point guards list in 2023.
This list placed Stephen Curry at the top, followed by Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, John Stockton, and Westbrook.
Westbrook’s Challenges
In 2023, Westbrook averaged 17 points and 6.3 rebounds, a slight improvement from his 15.9 points and 5.8 rebounds with the Lakers the previous year.
However, his time with the Lakers was fraught with difficulties. Perkins, during an appearance on ESPN’s First Take, described Westbrook’s behavior with the Lakers as “cancerous to the team,” criticizing his attitude and conduct on the bench.
Perkins noted that Westbrook’s actions, including moping, complaining, and making snide remarks, contributed to a negative team atmosphere.
This criticism strained their relationship, with Westbrook reportedly ceasing communication with Perkins, despite being the godfather to Perkins‘s middle child.
Despite his criticisms, Perkins has often recognized Westbrook’s talent and potential.
In 2023, after Westbrook joined the Los Angeles Clippers, Perkins suggested on ESPN that Westbrook could be the missing piece for a contending team.
He even asserted that Westbrook was an upgrade from John Wall and Reggie Jackson, acknowledging his potential impact on a new team.
