Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is set to miss “several weeks” due to a knee injury, according to head coach Brian Callahan. The good news is that the injury does not require surgery, and Callahan is hopeful that Hopkins will be back on the field within four weeks.
The timeline for Hopkins’ return is a bit uncertain, as Callahan noted that the recovery can “vary on those injuries.” However, the coach did say that the team is expecting to have their star receiver back in action by the regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears on September 8th.
As Callahan put it, “Let’s call it several weeks with a knee, not a surgical issue. So the timeline can vary on those injuries. So it’ll be a few weeks probably until he’s back and ready to roll.”
Hopkins was spotted at practice on Wednesday with a wrap on his left knee, but he ended up leaving the field with the team’s sports medicine director, Todd Torischelli. This led to initial reports that the receiver could miss “four to six weeks” with the injury.
Titans hope for quick return of Hopkins
The shorter end of that timeline would have Hopkins returning just in time for the season opener, while the longer end could see him back on the field just before the Titans’ Week 2 matchup against the New York Jets on September 15th.
The Titans will be eager to get their top receiver back as soon as possible, as he was a crucial part of their offense last season. In 2023, Hopkins led the team with 75 catches, 1,057 yards, and seven touchdowns.
His return will be especially important for quarterback Will Levis, who is set to make his first career start in Week 1. Having a reliable target like Hopkins will undoubtedly help the young QB as he looks to make a strong impression in his debut.
Overall, the Titans are optimistic that Hopkins will be back on the field sooner rather than later, and they’ll be counting on him to pick up where he left off and continue being a dominant force in their passing attack.
