It’s no surprise that since Patrick Mahomes took over as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback in 2018, the team has become the one to beat in the NFL. The team has reached the AFC Championship Game every year, appeared in four Super Bowls and won three of them, with Mahomes being named MVP in those pivotal wins over the Eagles and 49ers. Now, fresh from back-to-back Super Bowl victories and with the best record in the league, they are aiming to become the first team in history to win the three-peat, and it seems only the Ravens, Bills, Lions or Eagles can stop them.
Brady Reflects on Chiefs’ Probable Historic Season
But they still have a few games to go to make it three Vince Lombardi’s for the first time. But if he does, Mahomes will have done something that even Tom Brady hasn’t been able to do, even though he’s been in this situation before. Even though Brady didn’t do it, we know that in his 19 years with the Patriots, he created the greatest dynasty in NFL history, winning six out of eight Super Bowls and being the team to beat throughout those years.
That’s why Colin Cowherd asked Brady on “The Herd” about the Chiefs’ current situation, as he’s been in a similar position to Mahomes and the Chiefs. Despite an 11-1 record, the Chiefs haven’t dominated their opponents, with nine of their 11 wins coming by eight points or less, something the 2003-04 Patriots also did. Brady replied that this is what great teams do: they know how to win, and added a few more ads for Patrick.
Chiefs’ NFL Dominance In Mahomes Years
The Chiefs are predicted to win their ninth consecutive AFC West title, just two short of Tom Brady’s New England Patriots NFL record of 11. They are the clear favourites in their division, largely due to Mahomes’ impressive 34-5 record against AFC West rivals, and that record could improve this Sunday with a win over the Chargers.
The Chiefs have also joined an elite group of teams that have won consecutive Super Bowls, including the Packers (I-II), Dolphins (VII-VIII), Steelers (IX-X), (XIII-XIV), San Francisco (XXIII-XXIV), Cowboys (XVII-XXVIII), Broncos (XXXII-XXXIII) and Patriots (XXXVIII-XXXIX). The question now is, if they win this year, will they be the greatest dynasty in NFL history, despite only having six seasons at the top, and will that legacy continue after Mahomes retires, or before?
