Without a doubt, the greatest contribution Sporting Lisbon has made to football was the debut of Cristiano Ronaldo, which happened on August 14, 2002, when the striker took to the pitch in the Champions League game against Inter Milan.
From that date, the Portuguese began to write his history, which has led him to triumph at Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and currently at Al-Nassr in the Saudi Arabian League.
With that legacy on its shoulders, Sporting Lisbon has launched a third jersey in tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo, which is available on the club’s official website.
“There are numbers that leave a legacy because behind them there are people who build it day by day. We bring the number 7, in an unprecedented and proud way (…) in honour of Cristiano Ronaldo and his five Ballon d’Ors.”
On social media, Sporting Lisbon announced the signing with a presentation video in which the protagonist is Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, the first-born of the legendary Portuguese striker.
Is Cristiano Ronaldo thinking about retirement?
In recent weeks, Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that his goal is still to enjoy himself as a footballer, despite the spectre of retirement looming ever closer.
“I just want to enjoy playing football,” said Ronaldo. “Plan the retirement if it has to happen, in one or two years, I don’t know. I’ll be 40 soon.”
“I really want to enjoy while I feel motivated, I keep going. The day I don’t feel motivated, I’ll retire,” added the current Al Nassr player.
