Swiss Women’s Soccer Team ‘destroys’ Karol G song: Internet in hysterics

The players of the Swiss women’s soccer team have just shown that the famous saying, “the cobbler should stick to his last,” is as valid today as ever. A recent video of the team dancing to the rhythm of Colombian singer Karol G earned them criticism and mockery from internet users for their lack of rhythm.

If there is something that Latinos are famous for worldwide, it is their ability and grace to dance. For this reason, many feel they have the authority to criticize anyone who tries to move to one of the famous genres in the region.

The girls on the Swiss team did it with a lot of enthusiasm, but it’s clear that their motor skills are better tuned for the fast, powerful movements of soccer than for the cadence and feeling of a Latin song, and internet users did not forgive them for the lack of rhythm.

In the video, defender Marion Rey can be seen calling on some of her teammates to improvise a little choreography to the rhythm of “Si antes te hubiera conocido,” one of Karol G’s most recent hits.

Led by Rey, forward Alisha Lehmann, midfielder Geraldine Reuteler, and defender Eseosa Aigbogun, among others, move to the rhythm of the catchy song. Although full of enthusiasm, their attempt ends up looking more like a poorly executed line dance than any kind of Latin dance.

The stiffness of their movements made them an immediate target for ridicule and criticism from hundreds of internet users. “Logs,” one critic says, referring to the lack of hip movement, while another admits, mockingly, “I’m not stiff, I dance reggaeton like a Swiss!”

The unjustified criticism

It is clear that none of the girls in the video are professional dancers nor do they try to be. They are just a group of young women having fun and making the most of a moment of relaxation just before a training session or a game.

However, as another well-known saying goes, “Everyone is a critic.”
