Tata Martino closes Inter Miami doors on Angel Di Maria: The reasons why he won’t play with Messi

With rumours and speculation swirling that Argentinian Angel Di Maria could join Inter Miami, the reality is that at the moment it is impossible for him to play for the Fort Lauderdale outfit, or indeed any other team in MLS.

The rumours grew when it became known that the plan of the player and his entourage to return to play in Argentina with his beloved Rosario Central collapsed because of the violence in the South American country.

However, it was Inter Miami coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino who put an end to the speculation, stating that for the moment he “does not see the possibility” of the club signing the player for an eventual and desired reunion with Lionel Messi, so that Miami would have two World Cup winners who lifted the trophy in Qatar with the Albiceleste.

Tata Martino brings the speculation to an end

Martino was clear and forceful, and in fact did not touch on the issue of the budget limit of the team he manages: “I echo everything that is said and commented on. I repeat once again, there is no need for me to talk about the qualities that Angel [Di Maria] has. But, honestly and beyond the fact that there are almost two months to go before the transfer window reopens, I’m struggling to find a way for Inter Miami to sign him. I can’t think of any, so I don’t have much more to say.”

El ‘Fideo’ to say goodbye to the Albiceleste

There is a strong possibility that Di Maria has already made the decision to say goodbye to the Argentina national team after his participation in the upcoming Copa America, and although he is currently under contract with Portuguese club Benfica, the Rosarino may not take the club at their word to extend his contract, so it remains unclear what the 36-year-old’s professional destiny will be.

Argentina is not on the cards, Inter Miami are not in the picture at the moment and although there are other teams on his radar, the shadow of retirement is beginning to appear on the horizon for Di Maria.
