Byron Scott sends serious message to JJ Redick about his future with Lakers that will upset LeBron James

Former Los Angeles Lakers coach Byron Scott has not minced his words when talking about the potential of JJ Redick becoming the new coach.

The rumor is that Redick is the front-runner to take the job in LA but he has received some stern words of warning from Scott.

Scott was the Lakers coach between 2014 and 2016 and he has stressed that it is very hard for a first-time coach to take over a team like the Lakers where there is immediate pressure and expectation to be the best.

Scott’s example for Redick

He chose to use Steve Nash as an example of what can go wrong, as he struggled at the Brooklyn Nets despite having a player like Kevin Durant in tow.

“It’s hard jumping in that seat as a first-time head coach,” Scott explained before noting that he doesn’t know if Redick “has what it takes to be a great head coach in the NBA,” via TMZ.

“My advice would be: get you a bunch of great assistant coaches. Because they can really alleviate a lot of the pressure and a lot of the things you’ll be facing as a first-time head coach.”

Clearly, he is not ruling out the idea of Redick being a successful coach when the time comes, and offered the advice of getting great assistants.

Whilst there are rumors around a new coach, most of the speculation is on LeBron James‘ future as he may be leaving the franchise at the end of the season.

A recent slip-up from his agent where he referred to LeBron as ‘a free agent’ only fueled the rumors.
