Dallas Mavericks reach for NFL champion Patrick Mahomes instead of Cowboys’ Dak Prescott for NBA Finals hype video

Success over family. That is the message the Dallas Mavericks sent to diehard local fans by choosing Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes as the voice of its NBA Finals hype video . Watch the controversial video, narrated by Mahomes’ often joked about “Kermit” voice to see why Cowboys fans are in in an uproar.

“Using Mahomes to narrate instead of a Cowboys player, great work team,” said a the most popular reply to the video on X, formerly Twitter.

“Damn Dak,” another jaded fan pointed out in the comments.

Is Patrick Mahomes a Mavericks fan?

Despite being the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Mahomes grew up in Tyler, Texas and owns a home in Westlake about an hour northwest of where the Mavericks play their games at American Airlines Center. He is a dedicated Mavericks fan and was courtside with his wife Brittany and Travis Kelce during the Western Conference Finals.

Dallas Mavericks steer clear of Dallas Cowboys

None of those positive factors stopped NFL fans from seeing it as a glory chasing move to recruit a QB who knows more about winning championships than someone like ringless Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

No Cowboys players in sight yeah this team ain’t gonna jinx it alright,” joked a fan at the Cowboys’ expense.

On the flip side, using the uber-popular Mahomes probably recruited a few new fans from Boston Celtics green to the Dallas blue.

“y’all got my qb narrating this AND y’all playin against boston?? y’all got my support,” a fan of Mahomes added in the comments.

The NBA Finals begin Thursday night with Game 1 on ABC at 8:30pm ET.
