Dawn Staley’s reaction to New York Knicks gifts: Can’t beat em join them

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley was spotted at Game 4 of the NBA playoff series between the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers, rooting for her hometown team.

The Philadelphia native received a warm welcome from the Knicks, including a gift of team gear and an autographed jersey from guard Jalen Brunson.

“Thank you to my @nyknicks peeps for sending the NY love package! Thank you Rick! Thank you Jalen! Family for life! Win that ish!!”

Among the photos Staley posted was one of her with a young Brunson, highlighting her long-standing connection with the Brunson family. This relationship dates back to her tenure at Temple University, where she coached from 2000 to 2008.

Rick Brunson, Jalen‘s father, played basketball at Temple from 1991 to 1995 under coach John Chaney, setting the stage for young Jalen‘s early interactions with Staley. Their connection was evident at the game, as Jalen made a point to embrace Staley before the tip-off.

Despite her warm reception by the Knicks and the nostalgic connection to the Brunson family, Staley‘s loyalty to the 76ers was clear. She was actively involved in the playoff festivities in Philadelphia, including ringing the ceremonial bell at Sunday’s game held at the Wells Fargo Center.

Staley was also seen in the company of 76ers legends Allen Iverson and Julius Erving, further cementing her allegiance to her Philadelphia roots.
