Rockets, Jazz players ejected for throwing punches in yet another quarrel

Houston Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. and Utah Jazz guard Kris Dunn were ejected from Saturday’s game at Toyota Center five seconds into the second quarter after they both received technical fouls for starting a brief scuffle.

Dunn, 30, threw the first punch before Smith Jr., 20, retaliated, though neither were able to connect their respective blows. The scuffle started after they got tangled up while the ball was being brought up the court.

Officials and players from both teams managed to get in between them to break up the fight before it could escalate any further.

Earlier this season, Dunn and Smith Jr. nearly came to blows, and this was seemingly round two of their ongoing beef. Rockets head coach Ime Udoka has created a hard-nosed basketball team that is often involved in on-court quarrels.

Rockets riding eight-game win streak

Houston went on to blow out Utah 147-119 for en eighth consecutive victory and their ninth in the last 10 contests.

They are setting themselves up nicely for a strong finish in the remaining 10 games of the regular season to lock up a spot in the Play-In Tournament.

Rockets host the reeling Portland Trail Blazers on Monday in hopes of extending their win streak. Jazz go back home to face the Dallas Mavericks that same day.
