Philadelphia 76ers fans, and Joel Embiid, have dealt with a lot of injury heartbreak. After coming back to take down the Miami Heat in the Play-In, the electric Embiid was ready to lead his team in the NBA Playoffs.
Their first round opening game against the New York Knicks was tightly contested, with Embiid playing a key role by scoring 18 points in 16 minutes. But his first half was cut short following an incredible off-the-backboard dunk where Embiid landed awkwardly.
Joel Embiid returns after knee injury scare
After Embiid’s dunk to make it a three-point game, the Knicks went on a 9-0 run to make it 58-46 at halftime. Embiid couldn’t believe what had happened, as cameras zoomed in on his stunned face.
Embiid has struggled with a knee injury all season, but he was somehow able to return as soon as the second half started. Clearly, the injury wasn’t too bad, which is great news for the Sixers, Embiid and the NBA as a whole.
Fans were surprised to see Embiid return so quickly after what looked like a scary injury, and likened it to Patrick Mahomes‘ superhuman ability to overcome ankle injuries in particular.
